Twin CIties Live With Elizabeth Ries

Fun times at Twin Cities Live! Unfortunately, I did not get a chance to take pictures yesterday in the studio at TCL as it was such a rush to get all of my displays set up in time. 2 car loads full of props to set up in 3 different party displays…all in less than 40 minutes. Luckily, we finished all of the last details in just enough time and I had a few minutes to touch up in the make-up room and change into my heels. What a busy day! I wish I would have had time to shoot some of the details in the TCL studio — but I will catch up on some close-ups and share a list of tips/tricks that were covered on the show here in the next few days.

I did grab this one picture with Elizabeth + my wonderful assistants, Ava and Madelyn, on set. Thankfully, the girls reminded me to take a picture after we had packed up the 2 cars. I was so busy throughout the day that I didn’t get a chance for any other captures. At least it’s all taped (segment link is in the following post)…

TODAY was awesome! Every bit of it. I met so many wonderful people and saw all behind the scenes. Just finished up and now we’re off to take Madelyn ice skating at Rockefeller Center. Thank you all for amazing support!! I greatly appreciate every bit of encouragement.

It’s an exciting week! I’m off to NY for an appearance on the TODAY show!! Tune in Tues 3/26 at 9:15 am (NBC). I will be sharing details about a retro pool party we hosted at the Arizona Grand in a segment on “best party themes in America”. Studio 1A, Rockefeller Center…on my way!

I want to extend HUGE THANKS to those who have helped me organize the TODAY show piece: LoraLee Lewis, Little Retreats, SarahQhappybooths, CookieXchange, Jaime Mancilla (AFeteBeckons), and Great Useful Stuff. I will be posting vendor credits and further info about each business on my blog later this week (so all the details will be available after the TODAY segment).

I’m not sure how much time I will get to talk about specific details because the host will be asking questions and I’ll just go with the flow of that….SO please visit my blog for ALL the info. Just a glimpse for now. Our poolside photo booth went over so well! The kids had so much fun picking out their props and making funny faces. I will share details (and many more pictures) a bit later.

Giant yellow sun umbrellas…sparkling blue water…finding shade under a cabana…sipping cool drinks…watching children splash in the pool…soaking the sun on an oversized lounge chair…there’s nothing like a pool party to make perfect summer memories. We have hosted 2 parties this summer in an attempt to beat the heat. As usual, I took way too many pics at both events and will need time to catch up. For now, here’s a peek at the fun we had with the girls’ preschool friends (and their families)…

Party Tip: Make sure to get pictures of your children before all the party guests arrive. Once they meet up with friends they will have no interest in photo ops.

I shot these pics of the girls an hour before the party – they were excited and fresh so happy to give me some camera love

On the agenda: swim and play! Simple toys like water balloons, hula hoops, bubbles, squirt guns, and dive-sticks kept the kids entertained. They had more fun with the 5o cent squirt guns than anything else.

Notice the bubble refill station? Fill your own bubble bottles are a huge hit with the preschool crowd. Not a bad idea for everyday summertime fun either – we have kept a station on our back porch for the last few months.

My favorite bubble recipe:

1 part dishwasher soap (Dawn brand is said to be best)
8 parts water
1/4 part glycerin (available in pharmacies)

Stir the ingredients together and leave the solution in an open container for several hours. This gives the alcohol in the dishwashing soap a chance to evaporate.

The style for this party was inspired by the Loralee Lewis Sweetie Swimcap Collection and I have fallen in love with her entire product line. Party planning has never been so fun! Loralee offers fabulous designs, amazing details, and exceptional service. I have enjoyed working with her so much on the planning of this pool party.
