just one from disneyland…
Merry Christmas to all!

A trip to the Disney store ended with yet another princess dress. Auntie Kjerstin was with us on this venture and helped M convince me that it was too adorable to pass up. I keep thinking no more…we have enough dress up wear but sooner or later we end up with another — and then another. Ms. M loves to dress up and she wears them all the time so at least they are used often and well loved by this little girl. Her friends are the same way - the first thing they do on a playdate is ‘fancy up’ for the fun. I will always look back on these days with the greatest memories so for now I will just embrace the whole princess obsession and let her do her thing. I admit this one stands out a bit from the others. I love the mermaid tail made up of little strips of tulle.

The princess parade continues…
(See Aug. 6 post ‘Nobody does it like Disney’ for more info on the princess parade)
The thing about the Pocahontas costume that makes it so fun is the bright turquoise jewelry that comes with it. I love the color. It is so funny to see a little girl with giant clip on earrings. It just doesn’t look quite right but she just loves dressing up with all the accessories. I don’t remember Pocahontas wearing earrings but oh, well ….

I tried a dramatic vignette on these pictures to bring the attention in on the cute face and turquoise jewelry. I also emphasized the golden hues.
Please make note. The dramatic ‘glowy’ color that I used in the processing of the photo below almost makes it look like she is wearing make-up. Ummmm…noooooo! She is 3 years old.

So, let’s get the Princess Parade started! First up: Snow white
(See previous ‘Nobody does it like Disney’ for further explanation on the purpose of this post).
Remember that I mentioned these dresses are so well loved that they are ripped and tattered? It does not appear so in these pictures and that is because I always do a quick shoot whenever she gets a new dress (that’s when she is most excited about it, of course, and happy to model it for me). I’ll have to update this post with a few images of what these dresses look like after months of play. I am just happy that they get a lot of mileage.

the perfectly matching barbie doll version…

When I took ‘M’ out for pictures in her new costume, we happened upon this playground area. Can you believe that it matched her dress? You may think it’s odd to see her climbing and playing in a fancy princess costume but this is actually very true to life. She’ll wear this sort of thing anywhere she can get away with and there are many times we end up at the park in such attire. It’s just fun play-wear.

And, of course, the plastic slippers (a true princess is never fully dressed until she has the terribly uncomfortable slippers on her feet):

I remember visiting Disneyworld when I was in 8th grade. After a full day at Epcot and glorious fireworks in the evening my dad said the words “nobody does it like Disney, isn’t that right?” Very true, Dad. I think of this so often these days because Disney is such a major part of our everyday life right now. My daughter is all about the princesses (and has been for a couple years already). She has almost every costume sold — and so do her friends! For many months I thought to myself ‘this girl has too many costumes…this is just out of control – and then I realized after a half dozen play dates that all of her friends also owned the costume dresses in every color of the rainbow. I am just simply amazed that Disney has the entire corner of the market for children (especially girls). I also used to think that she would outgrow the interest after wearing a new dress around for a few days. Nope. She still wears the dresses that we bought for her well over a year ago. They are quite tattered, yes – but she still thinks they are beautiful and twirls around the house wearing them.
So why all this talk about Disney? Well, you know me. I’m all about taking pictures that reflect what life is like for families/children at the moment. I have taken several pictures that feature the love for all things Disney in this little girl’s world. I’m planning to take the opportunity to share a few mini Disney galleries in a few of my upcoming posts. I’ll call it the princess parade (because really that’s pretty much what it is…a fashion show of all the favorite dresses). So if you’re a Disney fan (like our family is) watch out for these headings.
Warning: There will be alot! I have TONS of Disney pictures.

Minnie Mouse has been the latest craze. We have a memory game with all the Disney characters and the big thing with ‘M” is matching up all the Minnie Mouses. Whatever it takes…I just love to see her enjoy the learning. That game is awesome for 3 year olds. If you have a little one it is a must buy! Good family times. We play it everyday.

Disney characters are loved by so many children. If your child has a costume and you would like to get him or her booked for a ’dress-up play’ special session, let me know! I offer great specials for ‘dress-up’ sessions and would be happy to provide you with further info. It’s always fun to watch a child play and imagine. Watch out for the upcoming ‘princess parade’ and other costume posts for examples.

It’s obvious that we love costumes and dress up around here. I think it’s great for a child’s imagination and playtime. My favorite shopping day is the day after halloween. Forget black Friday. I am in line with the early birds November 1 hoping to score a handful of costumes for 75% off. What a deal to find a year-round dress up play outfit for $4.
Last years Halloween clearance brought in this cute Minnie Mouse dress. When I bought it I thought for sure it would be a couple years before it would be used (it looked so big at the time and it was a size 4-6). I was quite surprised when I dug it out with some of the other discount costumes the other day and it fit my little ‘M’ perfectly. What a happy occassion for her (she is sooooo into Minnie right now).
