I’ve done a couple sessions with this duo now and love that they are ready for anything. Thanks for surviving the Arizona heat with me…you girls are troopers!

More on this later but just wanted to share a pic of a new favorite location. Isn’t this just the coolest background?

It’s obvious that we love costumes and dress up around here. I think it’s great for a child’s imagination and playtime. My favorite shopping day is the day after halloween. Forget black Friday. I am in line with the early birds November 1 hoping to score a handful of costumes for 75% off. What a deal to find a year-round dress up play outfit for $4.
Last years Halloween clearance brought in this cute Minnie Mouse dress. When I bought it I thought for sure it would be a couple years before it would be used (it looked so big at the time and it was a size 4-6). I was quite surprised when I dug it out with some of the other discount costumes the other day and it fit my little ‘M’ perfectly. What a happy occassion for her (she is sooooo into Minnie right now).

I walked into my daughter’s bedroom the other day and saw this. You’d think I would have put a stop to it immediately. My response? ‘Oh, cute! Your jumping on your bed….let me get my camera…okay, keep jumping!’
Can’t help it. I love the perfect photog moments.

Miss M is such a fashionista. She is always dressing up and my heels are her favorite accessory. She uses them much more than I do!

An American classic photo session. Here’s sweet little ‘L’ – celebrating her 4th birthday and the 4th of july. Isn’t this dress perfect? I have had this site in mind for something fun and when L’s mom showed me this dress I knew it was finally time to shoot at this location. I love how they turned out. ‘L’ is just amazing – you can just see her energy+beauty full out in these images.
Thank you for the great energy and fun, sweet girl!

Last day of summer swimming lesssons! The next step is child only classes (no more classes with mom in the pool).
Happy for the accomplishment…sad that I won’t be in the water with her next time.
I suppose parenting is all about this. Letting go a little at a time. Preschool is up next in that regard - only a couple weeks away. Is it just me or does this all happen in rapid succession? Once you hit age 3 it seems it’s all about letting go.

Session details:
My photography style is best described as lifestyle/photojournalistic. The goal is to capture you being you. I will guide and set up shots and then pretty much just catch you in action. Every photo session is a fun adventure – we may hang out at your house…jump in the pool…walk around downtown…have a tea party…play at the farm…stop for ice cream…it’s all part of the photo session. Once you book your session, I will talk with you about different options for the location and style that will capture the spirit of your family.
Best time for your session? When planning a session outdoors, early mornings or late evenings are the best time for optimal lighting.
Newborn sessions: Please call me before the birth of your child so I can plan my schedule accordingly. The best time to photograph newborns is within the first 2 weeks of life. The little babes tend to sleep more and curl up beautifully in the first weeks.
What to wear:
Clothing often helps to tell the story. If your daughter loves to twirl in her tutu or dress up in princess gowns/ tiaras/plastic slippers (just speaking from personal experience here) then we will certainly plan this assembly as part of the photo session. If your child loves music, get out the guitar and let’s rock!
Newborns and babies are best photographed in the beautiful bare skin they were born in . I also like to photograph newborns swaddled tightly in a blanket. I have a variety of props (blankets, hats, etc) that we can play with as well.
Children – Layers and textures work well. Please consider anything that tells the story about what your child loves…a football helmet, ballet outfit or tutu, a favorite dress-up costume…the list is endless! We can try different things so keep a list of things that make your child happy and we will work together to style a session that reflects the personality inside.
When you book your session I will have you complete a survey that helps me get to know your family and this will help with the session planning as well. Please plan to coordinate outfits (but avoid matching). A good rule to go by is to select one item (a girl’s dress for example) that is a print and then select colors from that one piece to coordinate the rest of the family. See the fashion friday posts for examples.
If you have questions, please contact me for advice. I love coming up with fun ideas and would be happy to work with you on this. You may also bring different outfits to the session so I can help you choose which ones would work best.
Length of session
We’ll experiment a bit (get ready to run, jump and play) and by the time it’s all said and done the session will likely have taken up to 2 hours. I prefer longer sessions because there is more opportunity for a variety of shots. My plan is to keep shooting until I have a wide array of fabulous images to put in your hands.
Session fee
The photo session fee is $175 for up to 4 people and is due at the time of booking. Each additional person after the initial four is $30.
Prints and digital images are purchased separately.
